GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Glacier Ice Arena has been closed for three months and while the owners say they are working hard to get the rink reopened by the fall, there's a new movement underway to bring a synthetic rink to the area.

Charles and Elizabeth Crawford own 'On Edge Skating.' Recently they've come up with a 13 page proposal they've been shopping around to investors in hopes of creating the largest synthetic ice rink in the world in Grand Junction.

Charles is no stranger to the ice, he's been involved with figure skating for more than 25 years. Now he and his wife say it's time to take Grand Junction to the next level.

With Glacier Ice Arena shut down, the Crawfords have been using the opportunity to shop around their idea to build a synthetic ice rink and multi–sports center in the Grand Junction/Palisade Area.

They say it's an option that's not only much cheaper and easier to install, but it's also a greener option because it uses about 75 percent less water and maintenance.

"We would offer a very similar option to a traditional ice rink. Why shouldn't we do it but be a little more ecologically and environmentally responsible with it?" asks Elizabeth.

The Crawfords say once they find investors, creating the center would only take about a month.
