GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)--Sheets, towels, scrubs gowns and pillowcases, in one day Omni Hospital Services will clean more than 29,000 pounds of 'em. "We produce around 30,000 pounds a day, I mean, right now," says owner Roger King.

It was on Valentines Day, 2003, when the machines started spinning. Cleaning only linen supply, Omni grew out of the Valley and down to areas like Durango, Telluride and up to places like Salida and Craig. King says, "We have, you know, eight routes where we go out and collect the linen, some of it on a daily basis."

Omni is certified by the Health Care Laundry Accreditation Council. King says, "So that's kinda like the highest standard of quality for processing linen." Omni also tries to automate as much as possible. "The less times it touches human hands the better off it is," says King.

Right off the truck a large conveyor belt feeds a giant corkscrew like washing machine. As many as 10 loads can wash simultaneously. King says, "The normal process uses about five gallons (of water) for one pound we use about 7/10 of a gallon for one pound of linen produced." Add up all the water saved over the last seven years and you'd have enough water, to fill Corn Lake 10 times.

Many of Omni’s customers are hotels, but they also work with hospitals like St. Mary's and Community; which is why employees take extra care when handling any and all linen. King says, "We treat all the linen that comes in as if it's contaminated with something." And it gets more than just a good wash. King says, "Most people think all linen that's washed is sanitized and it's really not." Hygienically clean means 60 percent of bacteria is killed, Omni sanitizes their sheets killing 99.9 percent of bacteria. Which means if you're sleeping on Omni clean sheets, you can say 'don't let the bed bugs bite' and really mean it.
