MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) - In the hope of drawing more businesses to the area, Mesa County is cutting new businesses a break.
Starting Jan. 4, any new business owner wanting to open shop in the county doesn't have to pay the usual planning fees, saving them about $1,000. The planning fees will be waived for any one who applies in 2010. This break also counts towards those who want to expand a current business.
Officials say they normally see around $90,000 in revenue from these fees, but are hopeful more businesses will mean an increase in tax revenue to make up for the loss.
They say they've also made it so the development process for these businesses goes at a faster pace.
