GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - You can see it from just about anywhere in the Valley, and now, the new tower at St. Mary’s Hospital is one step closer to opening for business.
The ‘new construction phase’ for the project is now complete and the 12-story structure is home to an expanded emergency department, intensive care services and a new childbirth and neonatal intensive care unit.
The new structure is massive, 434,000 square feet and the multi-year expansion project is almost done.
Rob Jenkins with St. Mary’s says, "We are within budget and we are on schedule. Which is a huge accomplishment."
The project cost $276 million. The next phase of the project is renovation of the existing hospital. Officials say that work starts immediately.
