PALISADE, Colo. (KKCO)- You can make personalized stuffed animals for your children using a local woman's pattern.
That is if you can find a store that isn't sold out of them.
Carol Mueller, the owner of Lavender Lady in Palisade, says they can't keep Sonja's Snuggables on the shelves.
Mueller says,"We introduced them in the store February first but when the stock arrived in January in her travel bag, we were selling them out of the bags before we even got the display built."
Sonja Kent is the woman behind these adorable designs.
She says she had no idea they would be such a hit, and she started making them just to keep busy.
Kent said her making them started through her passion. She explains, "I've always loved toys of any kind and I love stuffed animals."
The first animal she made was a cow, but the rest of the zoo quickly followed.
Kent says, "I did the hippo and then someone says 'Oh you should make a rhino'. And I'm going I don't know if I can or not. So I tried and there it was and i was like there's not very many people that have patterns for rhinos."
At craft shows the demand for Kent's animals was big. So big that she would sell out.
She realized she couldn't keep up with production and that's when she got the idea to market her patterns.
Kent says, "So I'll just see if simplicity wants to buy some of my patterns."
And they did.
Simplicity now carries Sonja's patterns in many fabric stores, including Jo–Ann's, Hobby Lobby and Wal-Mart.
But locally, most stores are already sold out of them and finding a store with them in stock is the hard part.
Kent says it takes about two hours to make one of her stuffed animals, but if you don't want to do the work you can still enjoy one.
Lavender Lady carries them pre–made.
The patterns that simplicity carries for Sonja's Snuggables are the giraffe, rhino, hippo, elephant and monkey.
She hopes to get more published too.
