GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Many people across the Grand Valley are counting down the days until the grand opening of the new Cabela's store.
On Tuesday, Cabela's officials opened their doors just enough to give 11News a sneak peek.
The 70,000 square foot store will anchor Mesa Mall where Mervyn's used to be.
While it's one of Cabela's smaller stores, store officials say it holds as much merchandise as one almost twice its size. Customers can also get online at the store and order items from an online catalog.
The new store also has 250 mounted animals scattered throughout the store and many are on the floor.
Officials say one of the most important things they have are employees, "Of course the employees, over 200 of them are from right in this local area so they know hunting, they know fishing, they know camping they know Colorado outdoors," says Cabela's Spokesman John Castillo.
The grand opening will take place on May 20 at 4 p.m. Officials say they expect a big turnout for the event.
