GRAND JUNCTION, Colo (KKCO) - Supporters of the Glacier Ice Arena gathered Tuesday to discuss the next steps to take as they work to save Grand Junction's only rink.
Nearly 100 people showed up to the meeting to learn about the current state of arena and what they could do to help.
Save The Rink Inc -- the group leading the effort -- says the bank is likely going to foreclose on the rink and that their first step needs to be figuring out a way to avoid that. Group leaders say if they can't do that, they at least want to find a way they can keep the Glacier Ice Arena a rink, rather than a warehouse, at the end of the foreclosure process.
To do that, they say they're in the process of planning a number of fundraising efforts and events. But they admit getting the money will be an uphill battle.
"I don't have any silver bullets for sure," said Rob Pierce, President of Save the Rink Inc. "This is just mostly trying to bring people together so we have contacts that we can draw on for help."
A "Save the Rink" fund has been set up at Alpine Bank. Donations can also be made online through Save the Rink Inc's website. To get to the site, click on the link below listed under "Related Links."
