Fruita finally gets dry cleaners
Going to the dry cleaners is probably not on the list of favorite daytime activities. It's even worse when the only dry cleaner is in the next town. Well, that's what it was like in Fruita but not anymore. In this week's segment of 11 Cares for Business, Aaron Luna takes a look at the newest and only dry cleaners in the City of Fruita.

FRUITA, Colo. (KKCO)--It used to be people in Fruita were steamed, blowing their tops because the only dry cleaner in town closed down. "In 2006 Grand Cleaners closed here Fruita and it was just a small kinda drop facility," says Mary Lou Wilson with the Fruita Chamber of Commerce. Wilson says the same suggestion came up at every new business meeting. "Dry cleaners kept coming up to the top of the list," she says.

This past November residents final got their wish. "I don't come from the dry cleaning industry; I come from the oil field industry," says Jeff Brady. As the owner of Monument Cleaners, Brady, a guy used to getting dirty, now makes sure everything he touches comes out sparkling clean. "We do dry cleaning, laundry; pressing and we have free pick up and delivery services," says Brady.

It wasn't Brady’s life long goal to clean clothes but he saw a need and stepped up to the plate, even going back to school. Brady says, "It's called the institute of dry cleaning and laundry and I actually studied there for three weeks."

Monument Cleaners has all new equipment, except for its dry cleaner, which is several years old. The new cleaners even tracks each piece of clothing with a tiny barcode glued to a hidden spot, like the inside of a pant leg or cuff. But one of their specialties just might be their heavy starch. Pants come out so stiff it’s hard to put your feet into them.

Brady keeps two employees but says he'll probably have to hire another. "Our customer base is growing everyday," he says. "They're so glad there is a cleaners in Fruita and they are so glad they don't have to drive into town," says Brady.

Monument Cleaners is located at 421 E. Hwy 6&50. For a link to their website clink the link below.
