GRAND JUNCTION, Colo, (KKCO)--From batting cages to an indoor soccer field, the Skyline building is not what it used to be.
"Basically we just wanted to change exactly what we were doing to keep going," says TJ Hines with Skyline. Three months ago the building held the logistics company Skyline Warehouse and Handling. Hines says, "With the economy doing what it was doing we just had a hard time sustaining their business." So they laid down some turf put up a few nets and invited people in.
"Men's club, co–ed's club, soccer teams and there's never been a place to play in Western Colorado," says Hines.
Before the Skyline Indoor Sports Facility, indoor soccer was played on a regular gym floor.
Soccer player Morgan Leany says, "Ya, I like this a lot better it's more of like an outdoor feel."
Shane Chatfield, who also plays at Skyline says, "Smaller numbers of people on the field a lot faster paced." Chatfield, who plays for Los Gatos Locos, says, it's not better or worse it's just different. "Outdoor is classic it's what we all fell in love with and indoor is just a twist on it," he says. Not to mention it's warmer in the winter. Hines says, "They don't want to be out there in the 30 degree weather with 4 inches of snow."
Six weeks after opening Skyline has been used by many sports including the Mesa State Lacrosse team. Hines says others include "Competitive baseball, we've got other softball teams, competitive teams coming in here on weekends."
Even with warmer weather on the horizon Skyline says it looks to become a year round facility.
"We definitely want to keep it around we want to make it something for the future of Western Colorado. We only look forward to grow," says Hines.
The Skyline Field is located behind the AutoZone on Highway 6&50 next to the Sam’s Club.
