Matt Lindholm turned in his letter of resignation to Mesa County School District 51 Monday afternoon. Officials say his resignation is effective immediately.

Lindholm resigned as the lady’s basketball coach on February 11, a short time after that he was placed on administrative leave from his post as a business teacher.

Lindholm is facing chargers of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust and with a pattern of abuse.

According to an arrest affidavit, Lindholm is accused of kissing and hugging a student several times in the coach's office at Central High.

Formal charges against the former coach are expected to be filed in early March.
