Washington (AP) More americans are filing their tax returns electronically so far this tax season, compared to last year.
As the deadline looms in mid-April, the IRS says more than 38 million federal income tax returns have been filed electronically so far. That is up 5 percent from a year earlier.
Overall, nearly million returns have been filed, up 1.5 percent from the same period a year ago.
The Irs says taxpayers looking to get refunds as well as economic stimulus payments can have faster service by filing electronically and by using direct deposit. The average for direct deposit refunds is $2,900.
