Mallory Haulman is out of surgery and recovering at Montrose Memorial Hospital after being stabbed in the neck at school Tuesday morning. Tuesday night she was upgraded from serious to fair condition.

11 News has learned Haulman is the daughter of Montrose Daily Press Production Manager Denny Haulman and Alicia Haulman, an ICU nurse.

The 17–year–old had surgery Tuesday morning and is listed in fair condition at Montrose Memorial Hospital where her mother works. Officials say her outlook is promising.

Montrose Daily Press Publisher Stephen Woody says Hualman did landscaping for the Daily Press. Woody says she is a good and quiet student that plays softball for the school.

Woody says the Haulman's are upset at what happened to their daughter and can't believe it happened at school.

Woody told 11 News that the family is hopeful that Hualman will make a full recovery. Woody says they are also upset that their other daughter witnessed the stabbing.
