Izzy Bristow has always loved making something extraordinary out of something ordinary. That is why she entered the "Stuck at Prom" contest which challenged teens to create their own outfits out of duct tape.

"It was kinda fun because not many people really believe it until they touched it to make sure that it was actually duct tape," said Bristow, a graduate from D'Evelyn High School.

Her friend, John Dyer, was taking her to his Prom at Lakewood High School. She got him to help her design and create an intricate, peacock dress and matching suit consisting of about 35 rolls of the all-purpose adhesive.

"It's almost entirely made up of duct tape, except copper leaf and bailing wire," Bristow said. "There's no such thing as gold duct tape, so we made our own gold duct tape."

She entered the "Stuck at Prom" contest put on by the Duck Brand tape company. After more than 231 entries from the U.S. and Canada, Bristow's creations are one of 10 finalists vying for $9,000 in scholarship money. Each student will get $3,000. Lakewood High School would also receive $3,000 for hosting the duct-taped couple.

"I think we spent more time taking pictures than actually on the dance floor," Dyer said.

They spent nine hours per day for a month creating the design. Bristow plans on majoring in theater with a focus on costuming. So she says the prize money is just as important as the bragging rights.

"Both are pretty big, you know. It's nice to have some money to help with college," Bristow said. "Kind of Duct Tape Queen sort of thing."
