Mesa County has its first human case of West Nile Virus.
The health department says a 40-year-old woman has been diagnosed with encephalitis caused by the virus.
This is the first human case in Mesa County, and the first on the Western Slope. Six cases have been reported in Colorado this year.
Last year there were 38 cases of West Nile Virus in Mesa County including two deaths.
