BLM draft out on Piceance Basin energy development
The federal government has released a draft for guiding oil and gas development in northwestern Colorado's Piceance Basin over the next 20 years.

    At this time it is important that the oil and gas companies are able to go forward with extraction of natural resources. However, it is also important that two other things are a reason to go slowly. 1) The wildlife in these areas is an important part of Western Colorado, its a way of life here, hunting and fishing do have a big impact on the economy here. 2) When these companies are approved for the leases it usually results in the general public (owners of these lands) not being allowed to enjoy the public lands that they are entitled to. There can be a compromise but seldom is either side willing to do so. There in lies the problem. the lands could effectively be shared but no one is willing to make the first reasonable move! This results in distrust of the oil companies which is understood and makes it difficult for John Q public to be sympathetic. Just my opinion!

      JJ, you are right about access being closed, but don't be too quick to point the finger at oil and gas. Our very own BLM in most cases are the responsible party, merely because it is an easy excuse for them to relinquish the responsibility to someone else for upkeep and maintenance. Even after some of the drilling activity is over, I have been informed that some of the roads that we locals have been using all our lives will remain closed to the public because the BLM doesn't want them reopened!
