Burglaries in Mesa County homes and apartments are up 25 percent.

That's according to new statistics just released by the Sheriff's office. Investigators say they looked at data from January through April of this year and compared it to the same time frame from the last four years.

They say an average of 89 jumped to 112 reports of home burglaries. The sheriff's office says closing a window or locking your door could prevent theft.

Anyone taking a vacation can call 244-3275 to arrange for a sheriff's volunteer to check on your home.
