Pilot OK after small plane crashes in Montrose
KKCO
MONTROSE, Colo. (KKCO) - The pilot of a small plane that crashed into a Montrose neighborhood has been treated and released.
According to our partners at the Montrose Daily Press, the pilot of the plane is local physician Douglas Borgo. He has been treated and released after his plane lost power and he had to make an emergency landing.
The Montrose Police Department says the pilot suffered only facial injuries after he tried to land the plane on a residential street. While trying to avoid a car, police say the wing of his plane clipped a tree at the corner of North Park and North Sixth, spinning the single-engine Navion plane around. He crash-landed further up the block, near a church at North Seventh and Park.
The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, Borgo was the only person on board. The National Transportation Safety Board has been notified and the Montrose Police Department says the plane has been moved to a hangar at the Montrose County Airport for inspection.
The Montrose Police Department is expecting to be able to release more information about the crash tomorrow.
