JUNEAU, Alaska (KKCO) - Day two of our Adventure to Alaska continues with a full day at sea through the Inside Passage. We also step foot on Alaskan soil for the first time in the capital city of Juneau.

Day three is on the open sea and with land only visible in the distance, it’s up to the Voldendam to keep us entertained. But that’s not a problem. In most cases, anyway.

Clifton resident Kay Rushing says she’ll have to stay away from the on-board shops because she’ll probably spend too much. Not a bad plan since some of the jewelry on board will set you back thousands of dollars.

It’s a good thing there are plenty of other options that don’t cost a penny. There’s eating, a game of chess that puts players right in the action, grabbing something to eat, a ping pong championship, filling an empty stomach, swimming in the pool or soaking in the hot tub. Did I mention eating? How about karaoke?

Our Holiday Vacations Tour Director stole the show but has no plans to leave his day job.

No matter how they filled the day, many guests capped off the night with a show in the auditorium.

Finally, it’s hello, Alaska! Day four and the open sea isn’t so open anymore. The mountains move in closer as we travel north through the Inside Passage.

We enjoy panoramic views as a whale and sea otters escort us to our next destination… the largest state capital in the US, geographically speaking, and the first place we step foot on dry land in Alaska.

There are lots of options and we go our separate ways to experience unique adventures.

Bob David of Fruita boards a float plane and toured five glaciers with a bird’s eye view. Then he landed at a remote lodge for dinner. He even spotted some bears.

Chuck and Barb Harvey stay on the water, boarding a smaller boat in search of whales.

Gary and Carol Carter choose a helicopter to take in the sights from the sky.

And some just stay put, finding plenty to do in this fascinating city nestled in the mountains, accessible only by air and sea.

Stopping by the shops and local restaurants is all some need to create lasting memories.

As for me, I try my luck at the famous fishing the area is known for, heading to the North Channel with a local guide. How did that turn out? Let’s just say from the sound of it photojournalist Todd Gilbert catches more than me and never leaves dry land. Chuck says he’s quite the chick magnet.

Read part three as we finish up our trip with a stroll through Skagway, Alaska and jump aboard a train for an unforgettable ride into the Yukon Territory of Canada.
