Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 came out this weekend. It is one of a two part series of the seventh book in the Harry Potter series by J.K Rowling.

Before I talk about the movie, I must mention I have NOT read any of the books. My opinions will be from a strict sense of 'was it a good movie?'

Since this is #7 for Harry Potter and friends, the acting has improved very dramatically from 2001. The kids have grown older and now take on a more adult roll as they fight the forces of evil. Dumbledore is now dead & Voldemort is almost fully formed. The dark lord now roams free among Hogwarts with his henchmen looking for Harry. The movie surrounds around Harry, Hermione, & Ron as they search for the remaining horcruxes to destroy Voldemort. Just like the title entails, many people die throughout the film, even those which you might not have thought would go just yet. The action is good where it is but I felt bored after they went back to the woods 3 - 4 times to escape all the action. I was hoping for more straight on battles between good & evil but the good guys always run. The plot is excellent with a good storyline but I don't think it needed to be drawn out through 2.5 hours to explain it all. The movie definitely cuts out at the absolute worst time for the audience which leaves you hanging until next year when the final film hits theaters. Good way to keep us coming back for more.

I'm very interested to see how it ends because I have not read the books. I have my own thoughts on the ending but after seeing who has been killed off lately, I really just don't know what's going to happen. Let me know what you think in the comments below and remember book readers...NO SPOILERS!!!  =P    Thanks!

Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 is playing at the Regal & is rated PG-13.

Like you, I have not read the Harry Potter Series. It's refreshing to know someone else out there isn't consumed with reading the books.
