The Best Ever
The debate about the best NFL quarterback recently surged after the Super Bowl. Montana? Elway? Favre? Manning? Fun fodder with a lot of opinions and statistics but usually inconclusive. They’re all great but who reigns supreme as best ever?
Kobe, LeBron, Magic, Michael, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain? Again, all great athletes that you can argue are the best ever.
Football and basketball are mainstream sports unlike the half-pipe snow boarding event we’ve been watching in the Olympics. There is no concrete score in the half pipe. But the half-pipe is so technically involved. So high risk. I have zero experience with winter sports but I have a great appreciation for what I see with the winter athletes in Vancouver.
Newcomers to the sport may not understand what makes a snowboarder in the half-pipe great. Until you see Shaun White perform. The flying tomato. By all appearances, White IS the greatest in his sport. Not by a little. By a lot. White is so clearly superior in skill and talent at his craft it is noticeable to the novice like my self. Those that come in a distant second the White are absolutely amazing in their own right.
Grace, energy, skill, athleticism, courage and certainly no fear. It can be said of many of these athletes. Lindsey Vonn among them. But I have never seen a single athlete that is so superior in their sport than Shaun White in the half-pipe.
