Let's talk some movies... This weekend I got my usual three movies from Netflix and I have to say only one of them stood out to me. The first one was Sesame Street Sing Yourself Silly. The only person in my house that was excited about this movie was my 1 year and 8 month old son and even he was distracted by the dog taking his blanket for a spin around the kitchen floor.
Anyway all jokes aside the next movie in our order was a sci fi movie I hadn't hear of before. That Movie is called Primer...this independent film was really not my cup O' tea at all. The dialog was stiff and overlapped far to much for my tastes. It seemed very forced for the actors to deliver their lines. I actually found myself look for things to distract me. I thought it was the perfect time to check the mail and eventually I turned it off. I'll give it another try this evening. no rating 'cause i didn't watch more that 15 minutes
Finally this brings me to Sean Penn's Directorial Debut (drum roll) INTO THE WILD based on the best selling book by Jon Krakauer.Into The Wild stars William Hurt, Vince Vaughn, Hal Holbrook (In an Oscar nominated role) and in the leading role Emile Hirsch whom you might remember from The Girl Next Door. Hirsch plays Christopher Johnson McCandless and if you don't know his story I'll give you a brief overview...Christopher McCandless a recent college grad whom with a life of privilege decided that object and possession are useless and money brings out the worst in people. He then abandons his life to become Alexander Supertramp. As Supertramp he embarks on a journey to the only frontier left...Alaska. through the course of the movie he finds friendships in quest for personal enlightenment. The story is told from his point of view which gives us a unique look into the story of McCandless. I found this film to be very passionate and well made, from the cinematography to the soundtrack with original songs by Eddie Vedder of Pearl jam fame. truly a work of art. Well done Mr. Penn can't wait to see more. 4 out of 5 stars and available on DVD
