Indy for a new Generation!!!!!
It's time for another exciting installment of the Reel Blog. This time I chose to watch one of the years most anticipated films ...drum roll please, Yes that's right I watched Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Before I get into the details lets start out with at bit of back story. The first Indiana Jones movie I watched in theaters was the first one in 1981 so I was a bit excited for this one and yes I'm 30 years old and I was only 3 years of age, but still I was there so there! back to the movie. We pick up this new adventure is set in the year 1957 19 years after the end of the previous movie and Indiana has served in WWII ( that's World War Two for the generation Xers out there) and now that the Nazis aren't around to make trouble for Jones, the next enemy of freedom and democracy is the Commies (the Soviet Russians ....) well the Russians spies kidnap Jones and his friend Mac to retreive an "object" from non other than area 51. You Indiana Jones fan remember that at the end of Raiders of the lost Ark the US government stashes away the Ark in a warehouse, well if you were wondering where that where it's stashed FYI. I won't say anymore than that. I don't want to spoil it for ya. I really like it, I thought that the special effects were great an the twists and turns were fun and that's what I think we have been missing in a lot of film these days ...Too many Art shows and not enough roller coaster rides. Now don't get me wrong I like art house film as well but you can't go wrong with a good roller coaster. For the Indy fans you'll love it...for the rest of ya I think you'll like it too... Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull playing at the Regal 4 outta 5 baby!!!!

4 out of 5? You never give anything less. Hmmmm.... I did like the fast paced action and the acting kept up with the genre, however I found myself scoffing at scenes in the movie that were just unbelievable. And yes, I know, the premise of the movie is unbelievable but give me a break! The Tarzan scene could have been dropped, just like falling over the waterfalls and surviving the nuclear blast could have been cut. Despite the fantastic nature of the movie i enjoyed most of it, but would only give the Crystal Skull 3 out of 4 stars. And that is being generous. And don't say its for the "new" generation, I am the one paying for it.

Indiana Jones was pretty great, although i think the Crystal skull was the weaker of the of the four. it lacked the practical nature of the first three films. I.E. the face melting sequence in raiders and the heart sacrifice in doom. I under stand the convenience of CGI and for the most part it works (prairie dogs). However, i think Spielberg should of taken the practical route when it came certain sequences. with overdone CGI, it still doesn't stop from being an awesome piece of entertainment and a great reminder of what great adventure movies were like back in the day. its also great to see Karen Allen back in the limelight again. not a franchise killer
