The X-files I Want to Believe
Last night I went down to the Ol’ Regal Cinemas Canyon View 14 and watched the latest installment of The X-files series named, The X-files: I Want to Believe. First things first I was a HUGE fan of the television series up to the end of season 7. It’s not that I didn’t like the addition of Robert Patrick as Doggett; I just thought it wasn’t right without Mulder; anyway back to the NEW movie off of the OLD series. The Movie starts off with the abduction and the search in the snow by the FBI for a missing FBI agent. I wasn’t surprised by the lack of alien Mythos from the series, so it wasn’t a shock to me. The story is centered on the relationship between Mulder and Scully and the need for Mulder to “look into the darkness”. Amanda Peet, Xzibit and Billy Connelly co-star. Billy Connelly plays a convicted sex offender Priest that has a psychic connection to the case and Peet and Xzibit play the FBI agents that enlist the help of Mulder. The film works for me because of it plays like an episode of the show and plays on Monster of the week style that made the show fun. However I feel that the movie will only appeal to the diehard fans of the show, not so much for the average everyday Joe Shmoe not really familiar with storytelling and history of the characters. With references to past events such as Mulder and Scully’s son and special appearances from characters like A.D. Skinner your casual viewer might be a bit confused. With that said I feel good about the X-files and hope to see more 2 ½ stars and playing at the Regal. If you love the series, seasons 1-9 are available on DVD. Don’t forget to enter to win ticket give away for the new Star Wars movie The Clone Wars, in one week I’ll test your knowledge in Star Wars Trivia. You could win a 25 dollar gift card to see the movie, so stay tuned!

Joe, I agree with your thoughts on the die hard fans. My girlfriend and i saw the movie, and liked it. But she didn't have a clue on the back story. I, however, did understand, and had to explain a little bit of the back story. My only hope is that maybe this movie will make her want to see the rest of the series. if not, then we'll just resort to watching re-runs of the office.
