| Film Fest Weekend |
|
Well, I have to say, I had a really good time at the "Independence Film Festival" this weekend. I walked into this thing with great hopes and wasn't disappointed at all. As with everything; the first outing in Grand Junction the "Independence Film Fest" but on a great show everyone, including film star Lou Diamond Phillips was genuinely nice and happy to be here. I especially liked the tribute to actor Cliff Robertson. Wow that is one really hard working man and truly dedicated actor. I was really impressed with the fact that if any slip ups with the digital projector happened, Festival Director Lawrence David Foldes had a light and humorous response to it.
I really like the Student Shorts portions of the festival. It is so awesome to see the work that film students come up with and with very little pull off a big budget look with very little time and money.
Saturday I had the pleasure of watching the Flight Of The Navigator intro'd by the Director of the Film Randall Kleiser. I didn't realize he had also directed a classic and a personal favorite of my "Grease" which Mr. Kleiser was kind enough to bring to Grand Junction and Show on Sunday.
So if you are reading this Blog and consider yourself a film buff or enthusiast of film and you were not at the festival...Shame on you. The problem in Grand Junction most people complain about is the lack of Culture and these fine people brought it to you and you did nothing. And don't say you didn't know about it unless you don't own a TV or a radio because it was advertised on BOTH. I just wish all of you were there to share my enjoyment of the celebration of film at our very own Avalon Theatre, and for those of you that were there ...pat yourselves on the back and know that culture was brought to you and you helped supported it by simply showing up.
Don't get me wrong I love a good summer blockbuster as much as the next guy but, one can't only survive on Michael Bay movies alone. We all need to get out there and support a local treasure. The Avalon Theatre is a Treasure enjoy it.
