When the Colorado Rockies smoked through the National League Championship Series by sweeping the Arizona Diamondbacks, they set themselves up for a record long break of eight days before playing in game one of the World Series. The win was also Colorado's 21st in their last 22 games played.
The question on a lot of people's minds is whether or not the eight day rest will be too much and if the Rockies will cool down and not perform very well in the Series.
The Detroit Tigers had seven days from their last LCS game and their first World Series game in 2006. The Tigers went on to lose the Series to the St. Louis Cardinals in five games. When this point was brought up to Rockies manager Clint Hurdle, he countered by saying that seven of the last ten teams to have five or more days off have gone on to become World Series champions.
Colorado is doing their part to stay busy by playing four to eight inning inter-squad games that will run until Sunday, October 21. Is that enough to keep them tuned up for the Fall Classic? Or will the Rockies streak come to an end with a World Series loss?
