Eight days is just too long of a break for the Rockies. Not only have they not played in a week, but they can barely hold a proper practice with the frigid weather and snowfall that has blanketed Coors Field.
The Red Sox just came back from a three games to one deficit to earn a spot in the World Series over the Cleveland Indians. Josh Beckett was named the ALCS MVP, and rightfully so. He won two games in that series shutting down the Indians bats, and out dueled Cy Young candidate C.C. Sabathia in both outings.
The Rockies best chance at winning a World Series title was for the Indians to be able to finish off the Red Sox while still in Cleveland, four games to one. But that didn't happen. And with each subsequent win by the Red Sox, the Rockies hopes diminished a little bit more.
Based on the recent success of the Red Sox and the long rest by the Rockies I am predicting that the Red Sox and Beckett will out-perform the Rockies in Boston on Wednesday night and win game one 8-2. Manny Ramirez and Kevin Youkilis will both hit home runs. Jeff Francis will perform well allowing only two or three runs through five to six innings pitched, but the Colorado bullpen will not be able to keep the Rockies in the game.
I am not a Red Sox fan. I gleefully cheer against them in each series they play. I have been a lifelong New York Mets fan and fondly remember their 1986 World Series title over the Red Sox. Having said that, I am still going to pick the Red Sox to win the Series in six games over the Rockies. I hope I am wrong, but the Rockies just won too fast and the Red Sox have all the momentum in their corner. If the Rockies can take care of business in Boston the way they did in the regular season, then my prediction will definitely be incorrect.
