High School Playoff Predictions

On Tuesday evening (February 26) I hopped online and went to chsaa.org to print up my personal copies of the 4A and 5A boys and girls basketball brackets. I printed two copies of each. Why? Because the contest was on between me and my colleague Zach Kerker.

Zach and I are always debating things in our sports office and we each have passionate opinions on certain topics. For example... would you rather have to ride a big wheel as your only means of transportation, or have to cook all of your meals in an easy bake oven? Zach chose the big wheel, I chose the easy bake oven. We had a loud and animated discussion about our selections while giving each other reasons why we selected each one. Needless to say, Zach and I like to debate and compete and it is no different for the high school state playoffs.

4A GIRLS:

In the 4A girls bracket I have selected the Montrose Indians to advance to the "Great Eight" before being eliminated by Pueblo East. I also picked the Rifle girls to advance to the second round before being eliminated by top seeded Golden. Unfortunately for Palisade and Delta, I selected each of them to lose in the first round.

Zach also chose Montrose to advance to the round of eight before losing. But he selected the Palisade girls to win their opening round game on the road before losing in the second round. Delta and Rifle both lose in the opening round of Zach's bracket.

4A BOYS:

On the boys side of the 4A bracket, I selected Montrose, Rifle, and Palisade to each win in the opening round of the playoffs before each lose in the second round.

Zach picked Rifle to win, but predicted that Palisade and Montrose would lose their opening games. Zach also picked Rifle to advance to the "Sweet 16" before losing to Mountain View.

5A GIRLS:

In the State's top classification, I predicted that the Grand Junction girls would win their opening round home game against Pine Creek before losing to Horizon in the second round. The Fruita Monument girls will not advance past the first round losing on the road to Columbine. But the Central girls will roll in this tournament all the way to the semi-finals before losing to Air-Academy.

Zach's bracket has the same outcome for the Grand Junction and Fruita Monument teams that I have. The difference is that he chose the Warriors to lose to Highlands Ranch in the "Sweet 16."

5A BOYS:

There are only two local school's in the 5A boys bracket. I predicted that the Fruita Monument boys will lose their opening game on the road against fairview. But the Grand Junction Tigers will keep their win streak going until the "Great Eight" where they will lose to Palmer.

Zach also picked the Wildcats to lose in the opening round, but has the Tigers losing to Poudre in the "Sweet 16."
