I have been challenged at work to start blogging more often. The problem is that I haven't been able to think of any good ideas to blog about... until today! I actually thought of two blog topics while I was out to dinner with some friends.
First topic: What ever happened to Luis Gonzalez? Remember how he hit 57 home runs out of nowhere a few years back? Well what is he doing now? Must have been a total fluke season. I'll blog about that on a different day.
Second Topic: What's up with vegans anyway? One of the guys we ate dinner with is a vegan. I have nothing against people who choose to live a vegan lifestyle, I just don't really understand the whole philosophy behind the choice to live a vegan lifestyle. Why would you not eat certain foods especially when some of them taste SOOOOOOOO GOOD?
Here is what I understand about a vegan. A vegan does not eat any meat or any animal byproduct whatsoever. No milk, cheese, eggs and worst of all NO ICE CREAM! Are you kidding? Ben and Jerry must not be very good friends with any vegans.
I understand that vegans support animal rights and do not condone animal abuse, hunting, or the slaughter of any animal for food. For the record, I have no problem with hunting or with eating meat (in case you haven't already seen an episode of "11 Sports Backyard BBQ") but in no way do I condone animal abuse. To me it is a sign of severe weakness in the person who has to beat an animal to make themselves feel strong or powerful.
Here is what I DO NOT understand. I think I am correct in assuming that most vegans are liberal in the political spectrum. Most liberals are pro-choice. I am going to guess that most vegans are pro-choice. So, wouldn't someone who does not condone the killing of animals or the eating of eggs be pro-life? I know this may be a sensitive topic for some. I don't need to know what your political views are, I just want to understand why someone who would be O.K. with killing a human egg at conception (abortion) would not eat a chicken egg.
So... what's up with vegans anyway? What is the whole vegan philosophy? Why do you choose to live a vegan lifestyle? It just doesn't make a lot of sense to me and I would love to get some insight on the whole topic and get a different perspective than the one that I have.
Again, I have no problem if someone chooses to live a vegan lifestyle. Go ahead and enjoy your cheese-less pizza and your soy milk. I will continue to enjoy my stuffed crust and Frostys. Oh, and by the way... Ben and Jerry are very good friends of mine!
