Bipartisan Politics Theme To Session Start
A week filled with political celebrations in Denver continues as the legislative session officially got underway Wednesday.
The start of the 66th legislative session comes with a lot of pomp and circumstance, but it's a clear cut sign for lawmakers too.
With a bang of Speaker of the House Andrew Romanoff's gavel, the 2007 legislative session got underway and it's a day of excitement for lawmakers, no matter what the level of experience is.
This year's session is laden with newcomers, 24 out of 65 in fact, however some say fresh minds are a good thing.
"This is the largest freshman class we've had since we became a state in 1876," Speaker of the House Romanoff said.
Colorado has just undergone a political transformation, with Democrats controlling the legislature and living in the governor's mansion, but remarks by both Speaker of the House Romanoff and House Minority Leader Mike May have a common thread--bipartisanship.
While a bipartisan agenda was in a sense laid out Wednesday, Republicans say the test comes Thursday, with Governor Ritter's State of the State address.
