The Mesa County Sheriff's Office says a former Central High School girl's basketball coach is under investigation for sexual assault.

11 News broke the story last week that Matt Lindholm was under investigation by the sheriff's office.

We want to make it very clear that Lindholm has not been charged with any crime at this time. Investigators say it is an open and active investigation.

Sources close to the team have confirmed that players have been individually questioned by investigators regarding this matter. They were asked about their personal relationship with Lindholm and were asked to hand over their personal cell phone numbers.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Office says Lindholm was under investigation in 2007 for assault and harassment but was never charged.

School District 51 officials announced today they placed the former Central Warriors girl's basketball coach on administrative leave.

The district says it is doing it's own independent investigation but would not comment on the investigation saying it is a personnel issue.

Last Monday, Central High announced the abrupt resignation of Lindholm. Principal Jodi Frost sent a letter home to parents saying Lindholm had resigned from the team to attend to a sick relative.

Lindholm was in his seventh season as head coach for the Central Lady Warriors. He also teaches business at Central High School.
