Grand Junction - Matthew Gurule went to the Pepsi Center as the state's top ranked 103 pound wrestler last week. He returned to the Western Slope on Sunday as a State Champion.
Gurule improved on his 6th place finish from 2007 to earn the Warriors only state title in 2008. He defeated Jared Rieck in this years championship matchup in a 5-2 decision.
The Sophomore credited his offseason training for his victory. He will likely be the favorite at 103 pounds heading into next season.
