GRAND JUNCTION - The Central Warriors gave up five runs in the final inning but were able to withstand Ponderosa's comeback attempt for a 9-7 win on the opening day of the Bill Fanning Classic.
The Warriors took a 9-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth when Travis Key launched a two-run homer over the wall in left field at Suplizio Field. That homerun turned out to be the decisive hit.
The Warriors are back on the field for day two of the Bill Fanning Classic at 1:00 p.m. against Douglas County.
