GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - (KKCO) The Central Warriors gave the Montrose Indians all they could handle on Friday night at Stocker Stadium, but the Indians scored last for the 34-31 win.
After the Indians took a 7-3 lead on a one yard Glayden Berry run, the Warriors responded when Josh Buniger bolted loose for a 81 yard touchdown to give Central the 10-7 lead.
Montrose grabbed the lead again in the second quarter on a one yard touchdown run by Braxton Franz 14-10. But once again Buniger went to work by breaking open a 44 yard run deep into Indians territory. Unfortunately, Buniger had to leave the game after that run with an injured leg after begin tackled.
Vandon Sanchez took over and capped the drive with a one yard touchdown that gave Central a 17-14 lead. That is when the fun began.
After Sanchez' touchdown run, Jordan Passehl picked up the squib kick at his own 20 yard line and returned the kick 80 yards for the go-ahead touchdown 21-17 Montrose.
On the ensuing kickoff, Sanchez pulled down the ball inside his the one yard line and got the blocks he needed for a 99 yard touchdown return to give Central a 24-21 halftime lead.
Sanchez added to the lead in the third quarter with a 77 yard touchdown run, but the Indians scored late in the fourth quarter to win the game.
