PHOENIX / FARMINGTON, NM (KKCO) -- Both the Wildcats and Tigers improved to 4-0 on the season with road wins on Thursday, while Central lost a heartbreaker in Phoenix.
Once again, Fruita Monument trailed late in the game and managed to come back for a 7-5 win, this time in the first round of the Piedra Vista Invitational over Los Alamos (NM).
The Hilltoppers led 4-3 in the sixth, but FMHS (4-0) tied the game on a wild pitch and then took the lead on a Dallin Wright sacrifice fly. Doran Wood got the win in relief and Matt Scofield got the save. Shai Fullmer did not factor in the decision after going 5 and 2/3 innings.
The Wildcats will play Farmington (NM) on Friday at 2 p.m. in the semi-finals.
Down in Phoenix, Grand Junction also advanced to 4-0 with a 10-3 win over Desert Ridge (AZ). It was the first win away from home for Kyle Rush's team.
Central suffered its first loss of the season on a walk-off single. The Warriors (3-1) weren't able to give Tanner Reid much help as the senior went 6 and 1/3 innings giving up just the two runs on seven hits.
