GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- The Warriors boys and girls basketball teams started league play Friday night against Montezuma-Cortez. The results turned out great for the Central girls, and even better for the Cortez boys.

The Panther girls came out firing in the first half against Central, and they held a seven-point lead at half. The second half belonged to the Central High girls. The Warriors shutout the Panthers throughout the 3rd quarter and 3-and-a-half minutes into the 4th quarter. Meanwhile, the Warriors continued to score and secured a lead that would not vanish. 54-48 was the final in favor of Central. Brittany Hoppe and Jordan Eller tied for a team-high 13 points for the Warriors, and Sydney Bayles of Cortez netted a game-high 19 points.

On the men's side of things, the Warriors hoped to find a way to notch their first victory of the season. Yet, the Panthers had a scoring attack that proved too potent to slow down. Cortez defeated the Warriors 69-57.

Up next for the Warriors is another league contest at home against Durango.
