GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- The Central High School boys and girls basketball squads had hopes for the 2012-portion of their seasons to have a stark contrast to the woes of 2011. The visiting Moffat County Bulldogs thought differently.
The girls contest was proved easy for the Bulldogs, who had 3 players in double-digits. Annie Sadvar and Melissa Camilletti both scored 11 points and Kori Finneman finished with 10 in the 56-37 victory for Moffat County. The top scorer of the night, however, was wearing a Warrior jersey. Freshman Taryn Smith netted 3 3-point field goals en route to posting 17 points for Central.
There was a worrisome moment near the end of the game for Central as junior Jordan Eller went down with what appeared to be a left ankle injury. The severity of the injury was not immediately reported, but Eller did not return to the court. The Warrior girls fall to 2-8 on the season.
The boys contest was hotly contested throughout. Moffat County held a slim 4-point lead at halftime.
When play resumed, the Warriors offense came up just short - symbolized by Central's missed shot in the waning seconds of the final quarter. The final was 57-55 in favor of the Bulldogs. The Warrior boys have yet to notch a victory this season.
