HS WRESTLING: Central's Holden goes down, but team rallies for the "W"

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- On paper, the visiting Montrose Indians wrestling team held the advantage heading into Thursday night's meet against Central High because they had two top-4 wrestlers in the state.

The Warriors spoiled the plans for Montrose when Jeremiah Stratton pinned Matthew Mestes in the 2nd round of the 285 lb. match. The only other pin of the night for Central came from Jacob Rubalcaba in the 126 lb. weight class. That pin sealed the "W" for the Warriors. The final was 42-30.

Excluding those two pins, the Warriors took home 4 victories due to defaults by the Indians. If not for those defaults, Montrose owned the meet. 3rd ranked Geordon Hudson of Montrose pinned Anthony Feller in the 145 lb match. Then Marcus Velasquez followed that with a victory of his own against Central's Willy Holdren in the 152's. And another pin for Montrose came by the skillful work of 4th ranked Cole Panter in the 220 lb. match.

Coming up in the schedule for the Central Warriors is a meet at Arvada West on Saturday, Jan. 14th. Central returns to the Grand Valley against Grand Junction High on Tuesday, Jan. 17th.
