Warriors hang on for 2-point win on the mat

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- Leading 27-26 with two matches to go, Grand Junction knew it needed a pin from Jessie Hoffschneider because they were forfeiting the final match at the 152 weight.

On the other side, Willy Holdren and the Central Warriors knew that they would get the win if Holdren could avoid getting pinned by the state's No. 1 wrestler at 145, Hoffschneider.

Holdren was able to hang on, losing the decision 9-2, but giving up just three points to the Tigers, which gave the Warriors a 32-30 win in a Southwestern League contest at Central High School.

GJHS trailed 21-15 when Chase Arrieta (125) turned in three points with an 8-1 decision over Jason Jarvis. Anthony Feller (130) quickly responded for Central, picking up five points for a 15-0 major decision over JC Archuleta, making the score 26-18.

Keenan Hall picked up six big points for the Tigers with a 2nd round pin over Jon Sullivan at 135, cutting the deficit to two. Kamron Medina then gave Junction a 27-26 lead after winning his decision against Levi Scott.

The Tigers forfeited at 152, giving No. 4 Zach Short a six point win.
