Wildcats outlast Warriors valiant effort

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – Central turned in one of its best halves of the season, trailing Fruita Monument by just two points at the break, but couldn’t hold on as the Wildcats pulled away for a 54-42 win in an SWL game at Central High School on Friday.

The Warriors (1-16, 0-5) never led, but overcame eight unanswered points by the Wildcats to start the game. CHS came back to tie the score at 12-12 and 16-16. FMHS (11-6, 5-0) led 18-16 at the half. Robert Chandler scored the first bucket of the 3rd quarter to tie the game at 18-18 before Fruita Monument went on a 16-3 run.

Drew Bridges led the Wildcats with 18 points, while Alex Padgett added 11 points. Angel Galindo led Central with 11 points off the bench and Chandler chipped in with 8 points.

Fruita Monument has now won 15-straight SWL games. They’ll host Grand Junction (12-5, 4-1) on Friday.
