GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - There are 10 school resource officers that help keep District 51 schools safe.
The total cost of these officers is nearly $1 million a year and none of that money comes from the School District’s budget.
At Tuesday’s weekly meeting, the School District handed out checks for $33,000 to the Grand Junction Police Department, Mesa County Sheriff’s Department and the Fruita Police Department.
The money is meant to help defray the costs for providing help.
Each agency took the opportunity Tuesday night to talk to the School Board about the importance of safety in school.
