PALISADE, Colo. (KKCO) - President Dwight D. Eisenhower once said people could do more to promote peace than governments and a local student is set to help prove that.
Palisade High School Freshman MacKenzie Nofzinger will spend next summer in Australia as a "People to People” Student Ambassador.
The group’s mission is to help students better understand other cultures and open up global lines of communication.
Nofziner says given the current state of the world, doing that is more important than ever.
"We don't know a lot of what's going on right now, especially kids,” she says. “And if we can understand each other better then I think we can get along better."
Nofzinger was nominated by teachers to go on the trip. While there she’ll live with an Australian family and spend time with Aboriginal tribes.
