MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) - School District 51 cut more than $1.5 million from its 2009/2010 budget.
Money was taken from almost every department in order to make the cut. District 51 also plans to spend less on travel and borrow money from reserves to meet next year’s budget requirements.
One thing not cut was teachers' salaries and a new Dean of Students was hired for Grand Junction High School.
In hopes of saving money down the road the District also offered early retirement to more than 230 teachers. The move could save more than $2 million later.
