CMU enrollment on the rise

The preliminary numbers are in. Student enrollment is up three percent from last fall, and students are excited.

"It's really good for Colorado Mesa to actually be growing and for people get to know our community a little bit better" says Danielle Cooper, a senior at CMU.

Cooper has noticed many more students walking down the hall.

"Walking through crowds of people on the campus is a little different, but it's really exciting at the same time, meeting new people throughout each year," said Cooper.

Cooper isn't the only one who has noticed the longer lunch lines or the crowded courtyards.

"So many more kids are coming up here to visit and thinking about this school, and realizing that it is a really nice school" said Christopher Buck, a sophomore.

He has noticed the increase of students, but it hasn't affected him in the classroom.

"You can still have that one on one, its not like they are speaking to a million kids, they are still speaking to you," said Buck.

"The students get the same quality of education that they did before, and we keep the class sizes the same size which means that we have more faculty and more sections" said CMU President Tim Foster.

He said more faculty and more sections are only the beginning of the change. With the addition of more students, he expects student fees and tuition to stay low.

"Having more people on campus and lowing the cost of everything would really be a good improvement to the school" said Cooper.

While CMU growing, it's not getting much recognition nationally. It was recently ranked 586 out of 650 by Forbes magazine for top universities around the United States.
