GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- During a board workshop Tuesday evening, a member of the District 51 School Board publicly announced that she will be stepping down from office.
Board member Diann Rice is moving out of the Grand Junction area later this month and consequently will not finish out her current term.
She plans to officially submit her resignation at the next school board meeting on September 20.
District officials say the board would have the option of appointing a replacement -- but noted that her seat is up for election this November and the board would also have the option of leaving it vacant until then.
Rice has served on the school board since 2007. Officials say they will have a reception for Rice later this month.
