PALISADE, Colo. (KKCO) - The Grand Valley is home to the top high school principal in the state.

Matt Diers, principal at Palisade High School, was recently named Colorado High School Principal of the Year by the Colorado Association of School Executives.

Since Diers has been at PHS, graduation rates have increased six percent and the school has seen major improvements in attendance, academic performance, and student conduct.

Diers says there are a lot of great principals out there and he feels honored to be singled out.

"This is a Palisade High School honor," said Diers. "This is the work of a lot of good students and I'm happy to stand up and tell everybody about it."

Diers will be officially recognized during a ceremony and reception at Palisade High School. It will take place Monday April 25 at 2:30pm. Members of the public are invited to attend.
