PARACHUTE, Colo. (KKCO) - The cold weather is making things difficult for at least one Western Slope school district.

Garfield County District 16, which serves Parachute and Battlement Mesa, canceled school Wednesday after drivers were unable to get their buses running in the morning.

Superintendent Ken Haptonstall says the district was also worried about students being exposed to wind chills of minus 30 degrees.

School is canceled on Thursday as well for those students.

They must have some thinking people in Parachute. Its cheaper to cancel school than burn down the buses by placing burning charcoal under the engine.
