GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Next year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of Colorado National Monument.
A variety of celebrations are planned for the monumental milestone, including the 'Art Exhibit of the Century.' Now is the time for artists to enter the event.
Colorado National Monument is partnering with the Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture for the art exhibit. Winning artwork will be on display at City Hall and Mesa County buildings from Jan. 5 through June 30, 2011.
Artists of all kinds are encouraged to submit work in a variety of mediums including photography, 2-D paintings and drawings in oil, acrylic, watercolor, chalk and pencil. All artwork must portray the landscape, environment or wildlife of the Monument. Pieces can be no larger than 36" x 36" or weigh more than 25 pounds when framed. Up to three pieces from each artist can be submitted, but artists will have only one item selected for display.
Exhibit organizers are accepting only 75 pieces for consideration and only 20 will make the actual exhibit. Artists chosen for exhibit will be notified by Dec. 21.
Jurors determine Best of Show, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prize winners. Monument officials say prizes include:
-Best in Show: A two night stay for two in Kiva Lodge at Gateway Canyons Resort, dinner for to at the Entrada Restaurant, a guided hike for two and two spa credits. Prize valued at $650.
-1st Prize: A two night stay for two at Wine Country Vineyard retreat in Palisade. Prize valued at $300.
-2nd Prize: Framing and matting or other services from The Great Frame Up. Prize valued at $200.
-3rd Prize: One night stay and breakfast fro two in a large suite at Two Rivers Winery and Chateau. Prize valued at $135.
Artists who wish to participate must submit a photograph of the piece/s no larger than 81/2" x 11" and a completed registration packet by Dec. 7. Click on the document links above for the artist paperwork and the link below under Related Links for more information.
