GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - A variety of worthy projects are a big step closer to completion after huge grants from the Grand Junction Lions Club were awarded.
Up for grabs, $100,000. And 15 local organizations got a piece of the pie:
-Mesa County Search and Rescue: $10,000 for a communication mast
-Botanical Society: $15,000 for a heater boiler.
-Hilltop: $10,000 for a basketball court/pergola
-Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado: $10,000 (completes $90,000 of $100,000 grant)
-Broadway Elementary School: $9,000 for a water fountain/paving area
-Mesa State College: $5,000 for construction on a building renovation
-Baseball Committee: $5,000 ($25,000 over 5 years for dugout renovation)
-Child & Migrant Services: $3,000 for commercial kitchen equipment
-Western Slope Center for Children: $3,400 for interview/observation equipment
-Shelledy Elementary School: $8,000 for an interactive classroom
-National Wild Turkey Federation: 42,000 for an archery equipment trailer
-Center for Enriched Communication: $2,600 for a billing capacity update
-Mesa County Sheriff’s Office: $4,500 for a graffiti power washer
-Redlands Community Center: $5,000 for an outdoor facility
-Chatfield Elementary School: $2,500 for library furniture
The funds were raised through the sale of Lions Club Carnival tickets, which go on sale Tuesday. The Carnival and Parade are Feb. 19.
