Grand Junction PD getting new truck to join the force

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- The truck has been deemed the "bread truck" simply because that's what it looks like.

And with age, things are falling apart piece by piece. The vehicle doesn't have air conditioning, seat belts or air bags. The whole department is excited for the new upgrade.

"It gives us a nice place to store all of our equipment," says Sergeant of Crime and Evidence Lab David Oswalt. "A lot of the equipment we don’t even keep in this vehicle because we don’t have enough space for it. It will allow us to keep fluids and some chemicals in the vehicle as well which currently we can’t do."

The funding for this project comes from money that is seized from crime scenes, not tax dollars.

    Is GJPD trying to be like the Sheriff's Office? My kids walked around their new Crime Scene truck at last years farmers market and it was purchased with seized drug money, no tax dollars spent. Now thats how you spend a dopers money!

    to "Anonymous" Colorado law does not require emergency personnel in emergency vehicles to wear seatbelts. It is usually their department policy to wear them. I agree with "Really?" here I think the point to make here was that the vehicle is unsafe to operate without them.

    Hey, genius...of a vehicle isn't equipped with seatbelts when it's made, the law doesn't require them to be worn. That's like being outraged my Pinto doesnt have airbags...the point was merely that it wasn't as safe a ride for the ifficers as it should be.

    No seatbelts?Did any of the drivers of this truck ever get ticketed for no seatbelts or are they above the law?
