GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- Monday marked the start of the fourth annual "Change for Change" drive at Independence Academy.
Each year the students at the K-8 charter school organizes a fundraiser based on the collection of students' spare change to benefit a local organization or charity. This year the beneficiary will be the Veterans Hospital.
Last year the school raised nearly $2,200, causing the Principal Damon Lockhart to live up to a promise of dressing up as a woman. For this year, Lockhart has promised to do something "crazy" if his students can beat the mark they set last year.
The fundraiser will run through the second Thursday in March. Independence Academy is accepting any and all donations at their front office at 600 North 14th Street, Grand Junction.
